Letter from the Executive Director (Fall 2019)

Dear Supporters,

Thanksgiving is nearly upon us and as I reflect back on our year, we have much to be thankful for. As you know, there are many ways to support an organization—through time, talent, and treasure—and BEAM is blessed to be sustained by each.

Even into the Fall, we have continued to see increased appointments for our food pantries and safety net financial assistance over this time last year. It is our volunteer base, fundraising efforts and food bank operations (including numerous partners) that have allowed us to keep up with this demand.

One of our organizational goals has always been to create a “one-stop shop” for our basic need client services in the Mayport area as Mayport is our highest impoverished community within BEAM’s beaches service area. Because we are in such a strong place, we are pleased to share that we will be expanding our Mayport pantry operations to include offices for SNAP benefit (aka food stamp) applications and financial interviews beginning in early 2020.

While this means we will no longer have a retail thrift store off Mayport Road, we are excited to offer additional resources close by for our clients challenged by transportation barriers.

Affordable adult and children’s clothing will still be available at our Shetter and 7th Avenue North locations in Jacksonville Beach. For a full list of store specialty items, please visit our website at www.jaxbeam.org/beamthrift.
