11 Jun COVID-19 Update: 6/11/2020
Lives Changed Through Keep Their Homes Campaign
Last week, we shared our startling June numbers and a 330% increase over last year is our new reality. Last month we provided rent and utility assistance for 280 families to prevent homelessness and ensure safety and stability for our beaches neighbors.
Below is just one story of a beaches resident affected by the economic impact of COVID-19.
Since 2013, Emmanuel worked for a local transportation company and was furloughed immediately following the cancellation of all large-scale events. His company watched group transportation, limo service and bus rental requests dry up overnight.
Emmanuel used his savings and some retirement funds to cover bills for the first couple months, but found himself struggling to afford food and a looming rent payment. This is when he was referred to BEAM.
BEAM was able to provide Emmanuel groceries and emergency rent assistance, helping him to bridge the gap.
“They [BEAM] did help me with my rent this month and I am thankful for that, and now I am back at work so everything is working out,” said Emmanuel. Hear more from Emmanuel on this First Coast News segment here.
To help provide critical budget relief, BEAM launched the Keep Their Homes Campaign and has raised more than $77,000 to provide individuals like Emmanuel assistance with rent and utility bills during distressing times.
Our phones continue to ring off the hook for those in need of our services, and we are grateful to you and the beaches community for your unwavering support.
