BEAM’s Updates to the COVID-19 Pandemic as of 5/6/2020:

More than $35k Raised Towards Keep Their Homes Campaign

Recent local announcements have allowed us to open our 7North thrift store doors, and many beaches area establishments have reopened their operations.

While we are certainly thankful for this forward movement, the economic effects of COVID-19 for beaches residents are still very real. Many of our neighbors have been without paychecks for two months, some have been furloughed for six, and others face unemployment. Families will continue to struggle to make ends meet.

This is why the Keep Their Homes Campaign is so important as we work to prevent homelessness. We are thrilled to share that we are more than halfway to our goal of $50,000 to assist beaches families who are in need of emergency rent assistance.

Highlights from last week include:

  • Distributing more than 27,000 pounds of food to BEAM pantries and local partners in need (distributed a whopping 90,000 pounds in April!)

  • Distributing nearly 150 two-week “Senior Quarantine Packs” to the elderly who are home-bound and in need of groceries

  • Conducting weekly check-in calls to 70 seniors to ensure safety and comfort while they continue to ‘Shelter in Place’ alone

  • Providing thousands of pounds of food to our partners at the Jacksonville USO, Mission House, Hubbard House, St Johns the Baptist Catholic Church, Chabad at the Beach and Beaches Community Kitchen

  • Partnering with Neptune Baptist Church on their inaugural Food Share event to provide food for families affected by COVID-19

  • Harvesting produce from BEAM’s Grace Garden including squash, lettuce, green beans, zucchini and green beans to supplement BEAM’s food pantries

How You Can Help:

  • Help us spread the word about our new Keep Their Homes Campaign as we work to ensure no beaches resident becomes homeless due to financial hardship because of COVID-19.

  • We continue to promote our Virtual Food Drive as financial donations are keeping our increased needs met and food in the pantries.

  • We have also recently seen individuals commit to monthly recurring gifts or sending in part or all of their stimulus check. Click here to visit our donation page.

  • Shop and/or drop off donated items to BEAM Thrift at our 7North location at 318 7th Ave N, Jacksonville Beach, 32250. For hours, visit: https://www.jaxbeam.org/beamthrift

As you know, these circumstances change frequently and we continue to make adjustments to serve our beaches area community. Please continue to visit our website and Facebook page for regular updates.

Thank you for your support to provide individuals and families hope and help during this trying time.
