12 May COVID-19 Update: 5/13/2020
BEAM’s Updates to the COVID-19 Pandemic as of 5/13/2020:
BEAM Quadruples Assistance Budget
We are incredibly close to raising our initial goal of $50,000 for our Keep Their Homes Campaign, although our emergency financial assistance needs are much greater than they were last month.
As you know, the environment is constantly changing, which makes projecting future needs difficult. As of this week, we are seeking to quadruple our emergency assistance budget to keep up with the demand. Last month, we tripled it.
And while BEAM has put significant energy into responding to the COVID-19 emergency, our other programs and services have found ways to continue.
Our Single Parent Program participants received Mother’s Day gifts in the garden with appropriate safety measures; a senior client received major plumbing repair help in her kitchen and bathroom as a part of our senior case management work; and our successful nutrition counseling participants volunteered to staff our Saturday pantry hours alongside our registered dietitian.
Highlights from last week include:
Distributing more than 19,000 pounds of food to BEAM pantries and local partners in need
Conducting weekly check-in calls to 72 seniors to ensure safety and comfort while they continue to ‘Shelter in Place’ alone
Providing thousands of food to our partners at the Jacksonville USO, Mission House, Hubbard House, St Johns the Baptist Catholic Church, Chabad at the Beach and Beaches Community Kitchen
Partnering with Neptune Baptist Church on their Food Share distribution event to provide food for more than 100 families affected by COVID-19
Harvesting produce from BEAM’s Grace Garden including carrots, lettuce, zucchini and green beans to supplement BEAM’s food pantries
