COVID-19 Update: 3/23/2020

BEAM’s Updates to the COVID-19 Pandemic as of 3/23/2020

Food distribution is our main focus as grocery stores run low, children are out of school, wages are cut and businesses close. Just last week the BEAM Food Bank distributed 20,342 pounds of food to families and partners in need.

Food assistance last week includes:

  • Distributed more than 2,000 meals via pre-packaged groceries to 225 families at St Johns the Baptist Catholic Church in Mayport, a USDA-certified food desert

  • Distributed groceries to 91 families at Joseph Finegan Elementary School in Mayport, and “Blessings in a Bag” weekend meals for kids in need. View news segment here

  • Provided 137 families pre-packaged groceries at our Jacksonville Beach and Mayport food pantries

  • Distributed more than 4,000 pounds of goods to our partners at Beaches Community Kitchen, Hubbard House, Chabad at the Beach and Mission House

Other important updates includes:

  • We are no longer accepting food donations, and are encouraging supporters to make a donation to our Virtual Food Drive allowing us to buy food in bulk and minimize personal contact. Click here for more information.

  • Effective today our Shetter and 7north thrift stores are closed. During this time, we will not be accepting any donated items.

  •  Beaches Council on Aging Dial-A-Ride has been displaced from the Bennie Furlong Senior Center, and is now operating out of the BEAM offices as they work to become virtual.

  • At-risk seniors identified by BEAM and Beaches Council on Aging will be called by BEAM staff and volunteers on a regular basis to check in on their status and grocery supplies.

  • We are also exploring the ability to assist clients in need of unemployment benefits and are looking for a partner who may be able to help with staff/volunteer training.

Every day we learn of more people who have had their lives drastically changed by COVID-19 and need our help. Please continue your financial support to BEAM, so that we are able to respond to the food and financial assistance needs of beaches area individuals and families.

As you know, these are constantly changing circumstances and we continue to make adjustments. Please visit our website at and Facebook page for regular updates.

Thank you for your support to provide beaches area individuals and families hope and help during this especially difficult time.
