BEAM helps families though emergencies that can result from missing work due to an illness, needed car repairs preventing them from getting to work, a temporary loss of their job or a loss of income for someone in the household.
BEAM assists beaches residents that live in the following zip codes:
32082, 32224, 32233, 32250, 32266 and 32227
Encompassing Ponte Vedra Beach, Jacksonville Beach, Neptune Beach, Atlantic Beach, and Mayport
Rent and Utility assistance is critical to meeting our goal of helping local residents remain safely housed in our community and to avoid homelessness during a financial emergency The dollars made available through this program help keep the doors open and the lights on in our low income clients’ homes. This core program is also an essential part of a comprehensive array of services that promote financial stability and avoid the risk of recurring housing crises.
Energy Bills and Utilities Assistance
Beaches Energy Service (BES) and City of Atlantic Beach (Public Works and Utilities) partners with BEAM to administer assistance funds available through BES’s “CARE” program to qualified BES customers who need help with their electric bill. Assistance with Beaches Energy bills is limited to once in a 12 month period. BEAM also administers assistance funding for overdue water and sewer bills for the City of Atlantic Beach Public Works and is limited to only once in an 18 month period.
BEAM’s food pantries located in Jacksonville Beach and Mayport serve residents of the above zip codes with the opportunity to “shop” in our client select pantries once every 30 days. We also have a full-time registered dietician on staff who works with clients suffering from nutrition related disease such as diabetes and heart disease through one on one consults and group education.
Applying for SNAP and Medicaid
BEAM is a partner with the Department of Children and Families and provides trained volunteers who help families and individuals apply for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or “food stamps”) and Medicaid benefits. These services are available Monday through Friday and do not require an appointment.
Single Parent Program
BEAM’s Single Parent Program is designed to interrupt the cycle of poverty for local single mothers and their children. Personalized case management and other services such as goal setting workshops, parenting workshops, and financial education are available for up to 3 years to enable clients in our beach communities to reach their self-sufficiency goals.
Path to Wellness Program
BEAM’s new Paths to Wellness Program is designed to further our mission by helping local low income residents make important dietary changes that will lead to healthier lives. The program is run by a full time registered dietician who works with clients one-on-one and also offers community nutrition classes.
BEAM operates three thrift stores in the beaches area, one on 7th Avenue and one on Shetter Ave in Jacksonville Beach and a third store on Mayport Road in Atlantic Beach. Both stores offer a great selection of clothing, furniture and household items at a very low price. It is boutique shopping with thrift store prices and the proceeds from the stores benefit our programs and remain in our community. The stores rely on donations from the community and pick-ups of large items can be arranged. Donations are accepted at our 7north location (318 7th Ave N) Monday-Saturday from 10am-5pm.
BACK TO SCHOOL WITH BEAM
Back to School with BEAM helps Beaches families get their children ready for school by providing clothing, new backpacks, school supplies, shoes, underwear and socks to children in our service area.
Thanksgiving dinner baskets are donated to BEAM and provided to families to prepare a bountiful Thanksgiving dinner.
